Details & Information for Westbrook's British Soccer Campers
Sunday, August 22, 2010

Dear British Soccer Campers & Parents – We are very excited that you’ll be attending our first annual Challenger Sports British Soccer Camp this week in Westbrook.  The camp will begin tomorrow, Monday, August 23, and run thru Friday, August 27.  It’ll be held on the side fields at the Westbrook Community Center (old Jr. High School), located at 426 Bridge Street and across from the Westbrook Little League Baseball Complex.

Sessions:

Full-Day (ages 8-14): 9 am-4 pm

Half-Day (ages 6-14): 9 am-12 noon

Mini Soccer (ages 3-5): 9-10:30 am

Registration:

Please plan to arrive by 8:30 am on Monday morning, August 23, for registration.  Each camper will receive a new soccer ball, so please don’t bring one of your own.

Rain:

The camp will be rain or shine.  The only time that campers will be moved indoors is if there are thunder and lightning storms, or torrential downpour. There is rain in the forecast for Monday, so please dress accordingly and bring layers.  For those that are doing the full-day camp, we recommend that you bring a change of clothes so that you can change gear during the lunch break, if needed.

What to Wear:

Cleats are highly-recommended and shinguards are a must.  Sneakers are also acceptable, if you do not have cleats.

What to Bring:

Full-day campers should bring their lunch.  All campers are encouraged to bring a water bottle clearly marked with their name, and a snack or two to enjoy during the day.  We will have a water jug on-site should your camper(s) need to refill their water bottle.

Drop-off/Pick-up:

Parents should feel free to drop their campers off any time after 8:15 am, and pick-up no later than 4:15 pm.  On Friday, players will compete in the camp “World Cup” finals, as well as receive their evaluations from the coaching staff.  More details and timing for these events will be available by mid-week, but we encourage parents to attend and be a part of the week-ending festivities.

Parents Clinic:

Parents are invited to take part in a FREE parents-only soccer clinic from 5:30-6:30 pm on Wednesday, August 25, at the Community Center fields.  Come listen and learn about the game of soccer and, if your ambitious enough, dress in workout gear and take part in the actual drills with other parents.  It’s sure to be a blast and, without a doubt, you’ll walk away with a better understanding of the game.  There is no registration necessary, just show up and participate.  Kids will not be participating in the clinic, but there is a playground beside the fields for those old enough to play unchaperoned.

Coaching Staff:

Jessica Gibbons – Leeds, England

Sapphire McIntosh – Leeds, England

Jeremy Martin - Isles of Scilly, England

James Wilcock - Billinge, England

Liam Graf - Harrow, England

Westbrook Soccer League

Register today for Westbrook's British Soccer Camp Aug. 23-27
Tuesday, August 17, 2010
The number-one youth soccer company in the United States, Challenger Sports, has been invited to hold one of their nationwide British Soccer training camps right here in Westbrook, ME.

Westbrook Soccer League has teamed up with Challenger Sports to host a week-long British Soccer camp for boys and girls during the week of August 23-27, 2010. The camp wll take place at the Westbrook Community Center fields (the former Junior High School) on Bridge Street.

The camp will run Monday through Friday and each child will be coached by a member of Challenger’s British coaching staff flown to the USA exclusively to work on these programs.

Challenger has become the largest soccer camp provider in North America by combining consistently high-quality, age-specific soccer instruction, along with equally-important elements of character, cultural, and nutritional education.

Each day the children will practice and master new individual skills and understand small group and team tactics through Challenger’s innovative camp curriculum. Campers will also scrimmage each day in the always popular "Camp World Cup"!

The Challenger coaching staff believes that teaching silky soccer skills is only a part of the process of educating young athletes. The coaches will also take time out of the busy weekly schedule to teach lessons on respect, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship, and leadership, and discuss how these core values relate to soccer, family and school.

The most popular part of each camp is the "Camp Word Cup". The coaches use this daily tournament to teach the players about life, customs, and traditions of other countries. The campers are asked to make up cheers, bring flags, dress up, and learn as much as they can about the country they represent.

You do not need to be a Westbrook resident to participate. Kids from all surrounding towns are welcomed to attend. All skill levels are welcomed, too.

Westbrook Soccer League is offering British Soccer camp sessions for the following ages:

Ages 3-5: 9 am-10:30 am daily (Cost $80 total)

Ages 6-14: 9 am-12 pm daily (Cost $110 total)

Ages 8-14: 9 am-4 pm daily, with a one-hour lunch break (Cost $162 total)

Teams are also welcomed to attend and receive a week of focused instruction to prepare them for the fall season.

Each camper will receive a FREE camp t-shirt, FREE camp soccer ball, and FREE player evaluation.

The Challenger coaching staff will also provide a FREE adult clinic for coaches and parents on Wednesday, August 25, from 5:30-6:30 pm.

To sign up for the camp, either visit www.challengersports.com or contact camp coordinator Greg Post via e-mail at gpost@nlpartners.com or call/text (207) 310-8297.

When a camper registers on-line, they receive an automatically-generated receipt that features Challenger's tax ID number at the bottom. Parents can then use this number when it comes to claiming back from child care expenses through flexible spending accounts (FSA).

Challenger’s British Soccer Camps have been running in the U.S. for over 19 years. In addition to coaching youth players throughout the country, Challenger also provide year round club trainers, run European Soccer Tours, hold soccer tournaments and now manufacture and sell their own brand of soccer apparel. To find out more about Challenger Sports, visit their web site at www.challengersports.com.
